Is it legal to buy gold from Sierra Leone?+

Yes. Gold may be lawfully bought and exported from Sierra Leone when handled by a licensed dealer and exporter registered with the National Minerals Agency (NMA). Every export is assayed, valued and certified by the Government Gold & Diamond Office (GGDO), with a 3% export duty paid to Government. How do I know the gold is genuine and pure?+

Before export, all gold is assayed to certify its purity percentage in the presence of the exporter, a Senior Mines Monitoring Officer and a National Revenue Authority customs officer. A certificate is issued stating the weight, purity, licence name and number, and value — your independent guarantee of authenticity.

Are the diamonds conflict-free?+

Yes. Sierra Leone is a full participant in the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS). Every rough diamond parcel we export is sealed at the Precious Minerals Trading Directorate and accompanied by a serial-numbered Kimberley Process certificate confirming the stones are conflict-free and lawfully sourced.
